State Scheme News

NSW
In 2001/2002 NSW WorkCover reported a deficit of $3 billion dollars. This has now turned around to a reported surplus of $400 million. The question employers will want to know is will they see a reduction in premiums over the next few years?

VIC
The Victorian WorkCover Authority (VWA) has announced that they aim to have the lowest premiums in Australia while maintaining the upward trend in financial performance.

SA
This Scheme is struggling with a deficit of $1 billion dollars, which is not helped by the scheme only collecting $400 million per year in premiums.

QLD
Queensland continues to enjoy the lowest premiums in Australia, but Victoria is hot on their heals to become the cheapest.

WA and NT
Thanks to the resources boom, WA and NT have seen an increase in the premiums collected with a reduction in the frequency of injuries.

TAS & ACT
ACT continues to have the highest premiums in Australia and is examining ways to reduce the cost. One way is to make legislative changes. In Tasmania the rates and premiums have remained steady.
