Global Workforce Index: Generational Crossovers in the Workplace - Opinions Revealed

Access a copy of the 2009 key findings Whitepaper summary.

Today’s workforce primarily consists of three generations:  Generation Y (ages 18-29), Generation X (ages 30-47) and Baby Boomers (ages 48-65).  Each generation approaches work and the workplace differently, and it’s important that organisations understand the key differences of each generation in order to cultivate an innovative work environment and retain the best talent.

To help organisations understand the different generational viewpoints, Kelly Services collected the views of approximately 100,000 people in 34 countries in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific.

The survey revealed viewpoints within six key areas:

  1. Meaningful Work and how and how workers value their contribution to a greater cause, as compared to salary or job title
  2. Effectiveness of Training Programs within their organisation and how it improves on-the-job performance
  3. Mobile Communications Technology and how it impacts the workplace and work-life balance
  4. Workplace Attitudes and how varying behaviours and opinions across the generations impact the workplace
  5. Social Responsibility of the organisation for which they work, or desire to work for
  6. Globalisation and how organisations utilise various nationalities and cultures to achieve success
